Team Healthy Bodies wins 3 classes

at the 2009 American Powerlifting Associations California Championships

Suzie Steele - After only working out for a about 5 months, 56 year old Suzie decided she wanted to compete as a power lifter.  Suzie started from the ground floor and learning proper deadlift and squat technique with no weight, she worked out twice per week and was ready for her first meet on November 14th 2009.  She weighed in at 142lbs placing her in the 135 - 148lb wieght class for the Masters 50 - 59 division.

Cindy Wood - Cindy has been working out at Healthy Bodies for a little over 2 years now.  She has lost nearly 30 pounds of weight and has tripled her strength.  Cindy was picking up things as quickly as I could throw them at her and new she would be a perfect fit for power lifting.  I brought it up to her and she jumped at the opportunity.  She not only won her class, but Cindy and her daughter Tenaya had a wonderfull experience to remember.  Cindy weighed in at 177lbs and won the 165 - 181lb weight class for the Masters 50 - 59 division.

Jamie Loomis - The only competitor on Team Healthy Bodies with experience at powerlifting, Jamie was bit by the sophomore jinx.  First, her strength was low at the beginning of the meet due to not eating enough carbohydrates.  Once her strength was back, she had already missed her three bench press attempts.  To add to it, in a miscommunication, the APA had Jamie's opening weight listed as 120lbs in stead of 110lbs.  10lbs heavier than we had planned.  In any case, Jamie finished strong by setting a new personal record of 210lbs on the deadlift.

Brad Loomis - Coach Brad also competed in his first ever power lifting meet after 6 years of competitive bodybuilding.  Also weighing in at 177lbs, Brad would win the 165 - 181lb weight class for the mens "Open" Division.  This would be an emotional day for Brad as his friend and workout partner Billy was supposed to have competed with him at this event.  However, Billy was killed in a auto accident just 2 weeks before this event.  He dedicated all of his lifts to his fallen training partner Billy Funk.
